The importance of home dental care for your cat!

Puurl is sitting on the keyboard helping me type so forgive any typos...
Studies indicate that good kitty dental hygiene can truly help prolong your pets life! By the time cats are 2 years old, they begin to accumulate plaque and develop gingivitis. The upper cheek teeth are the first teeth involved (and also the most difficult to visualize).

Plaque is made up of bacteria, food particles, and saliva that begins to coat the teeth at an early age. Eventually the plaque becomes mineralized and is called tartar!

It is important to control the plaque at an early age. The best time and best way to help remove it is by teaching your kitten to allow brushing or just gently rubbing the teeth with a moist wash cloth.

There are many great plaque busting tartar control diets, in particular Hills TD and Royal canin DD.

For those kitties with very red gums, try using CET disinfectant mouth wash.

Eventually your kitty may (stop PUURL>>>>) benefit from a thorough dental cleaning under anesthesia.
